ABOUT ME

Glad you are here! I am Tess (she/her/hers) and I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist in the State of California. I earned my Master's degree in Counseling Psychology & Drama Therapy (Marriage & Family Therapist Track) from the California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) Graduate School of Professional Psychology.

I became a therapist after many years of engaging in my own deep personal work, part of which included involvement in theater and improv. I found the theatrical space as a beautiful outlet for healing and emotional expression, leading to my desire to share with others who are struggling or feeling stuck.

As a therapist, I continue to engage in the work of personal growth, challenging my own patterns and dispositions with curiosity. In my work, it is important that I show up as an ally, as antiracist, and LGBTQIA+ affirming, understanding the influence of the sociopolitical atmosphere on each individual's identity and experience.

I provide therapy for children, teens, individual adults, families & couples.

While I work with a broad range of individuals, my areas of specialty include the treatment of children (ages 3-10) who've experienced trauma and/or are struggling with difficult emotions or behaviors related to divorce or other stressful life situations. I also work with teens individually who are struggling with mental health, peer and school difficulties as well as providing family therapy with teens & parents. I also specialize in the treatment of adults dealing with life transitions (new parents, are pregnant or wanting to become pregnant, or are dealing with challenges in intimate relationships). I love supporting women around their relationships and empowering them to speak their needs.

My skill set is integrative, strength-based and often playful. I combine traditional talk therapy with creative methods including drama therapy, psychodrama, narrative, embodiment and gestalt. I recognize and leverage the impact early attachment experiences have on current relationships, emotional regulation and difficulties in functioning.

I am especially attuned to the different "parts" of you (i.e. the neglected, lonely, victorious, you name it [insert feeling]) and how these "parts" have helped you cope with life. In our work together, I will help you integrate all parts of you while helping you to choose and nurture which ones you would like to feel more of.

Together we will discover your patterns and way of relating to the world. With my embodied and fully present approach, we will peel back the layers of feeling you may be hiding underneath, layers that keep you stuck, and we will reveal the real, deeply feeling you.

As your therapist, we will collaborate towards goals that meet your mental health needs. I am honored to join you in your journey towards recovery, hope, self-compassion and healing.

I offer a free 20 minute phone or video consultation to see if the services I provide would be a good fit for you and/or your family.

Get in touch with me!

With gratitude,
